BJP assures Ramdev of full support
The BJP on Saturday reiterated its “full support” to Baba Ramdev’s fast against corruption.
The BJP accused the Congress of “double standards” on the issue and said that while its ministers held talks with Baba Ramdev, some party leaders continued to criticise the yoga guru’s agitation.
“Baba Ramdev is sitting on a fast at the Ramlila Ground in Delhi. Whosoever fights against corruption, he and his movement has our full support,” BJP spokesman Shahnawaz Hussain told reporters here on Saturday. However, the BJP was evasive when asked if it would participate in Baba Ramdev’s movement. “We have extended moral support to him,” Mr Hussain said.
Reacting sharply to Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s statement that Baba Ramdev was an RSS agent, he said, “Mr Digvijay Singh should say whose agent he himself is and whose language is he speaking.”
The BJP spokesman said that the issue of black money had first been raised by BJP leader L.K. Advani during the last Lok Sabha elections.
“The issue has now turned into an issue of the common man and it is this that has scared the Central government.”
