BJP attacks Cong for JP comparison
The BJP on Friday alleged the Congress was ârunning out of ideasâ after a senior Congress leader compared AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi with socialist stalwart Jayaprakash Narayan.
Senior BJP leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley said: âI donât know what somebody has said about somebody . But I think it will be an attempt to lowering the stature of a leader like Jayaprakash Narayan who has made significant and great contributions to the freedom struggle or otherwise in India.â
Mr Jaitley said perhaps AICC spokesperson Mohan Prakash, who compared Mr Gandhi with the socialist stalwart, overlooked that Narayan was one of the most vociferous political opponents of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who clamped Emergency at the height of the JP movement.
Another senior BJP leader and partyâs chief spokesperson, Mr Ravishankar Prasad, said the statement made by Mr Prakash shows âheights of sycophancyâ. He said before making such a statement, the Congress leader should have gone into hard historical facts.

Oct. 22: The Congress on Friday diluted its observation of comparing AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi with Jayaprakash Narayan. Congress spokesperson Mohan Prakash clarified his statement: âMy intention was and is not to compare any individual with somebody else. Rahul Gandhi is addressing the aspirations of youths and urging them to increase their social and political participation and the attraction of youth towards Gandhi is on rise. The interest of youth in politics has increased because of his efforts.â
