BJP delegation meets PM; convey concerns on Nepal situation

A BJP delegation led by former party chief, Mr Rajnath Singh, on Saturday met the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, to convey its concerns over the political situation in Nepal and backed efforts to restore democracy in that country.
Making a strong pitch for democracy in Nepal, Singh told the Prime Minister that the BJP would back every decision of the government with regard to relations with its eastern neighbour.
"As per my understanding of Nepal, I feel that the people are for democracy and a healthy democracy will lead to a prosperous Nepal," Mr Rajnath Singh told reporters after meeting with the Prime Minister.
He was accompanied by former Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Mr Bhagat Singh Koshiyari and Delhi MLA, Mr Vijay Jolly.
Mr Singh said that he sought to know from the Prime Minister the "structured view" and the policy of the government with regard to Nepal, which is in the midst of political turmoil.
"I assured him that the BJP would back any decision taken by the Central government on Nepal," he said.
The former Union minister underlined the importance of having political consensus on matters of foreign policy.
The political situation in Nepal is fluid following the resignation of Prime Minister, Mr Madhav Kumar Nepal and the failure of its Parliament to elect his successor after five rounds of voting.
The Maoists, who fought against the state in a civil war until 2006, hold the largest number of seats in parliament but not enough to govern alone.
