BJP demands Aiyar apology
May 3: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader M. Venkaiah Naidu on Monday stated that the government was free to take action against anyone involved in terrorist activities but incidents of terrorism should not be linked with religion.
While taking part in the debate on the working of home ministry in the Rajya Sabha on Monday he said that terror has nothing to do with religion and “terrorist is a terrorist” irrespective of the religion to which he belongs.
“Terrorists should be caught and punished,” Mr Naidu said. “Whether it is blasts in Malegaon or Hyderabad, all this is dangerous for the country,” he said.
Speaking during the debate Mani Shankar Aiyar, targeted Leader of Opposition Arun Jaitley while demanding “criminal proceedings” in Gujarat riots and Babri Masjid cases.
The BJP alleged that Mr Aiyar had said that Mr Jaitley covered up a criminal act in Gujarat riots. The proceedings of the House, which was discussing working of the home ministry, were stalled for about half an hour towards the fag end of the day.
Insisting that Mr Aiyar be asked to seek an apology, the BJP members trooped into the well shouting slogans and forced the adjournment of the House, minutes before home minister P. Chidambaram was to make a reply to the debate. Mr Aiyar, however, maintained that the Chair can go through the proceedings.
Home minister P. Chidambaram wasn’t able to reply on the discussion and is likely to make a statement in the House on Tuesday.
