BJP flag plan inciting Kashmiris: Mirwaiz
Hurriyat Conference leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is in London, on Tuesday morning criticised the Bharatiya Janta Party’s bid to unfurl the Indian flag in Srinagar, accusing the Opposition party of “irresponsible behaviour” that aims to push the Kashmiris back on path of violence.
“Unfortunately, the BJP has created a situation on the ground where it claims that it wants to unfurl the Indian national flag in the middle of Srinagar’s Lal Chowk. This seems to be a design to push the people of Kashmir back to the point where they probably will get agitated and will come out on the streets with stones in hand,” Mirwaiz said in London on Tuesday.
“There has been a huge transformation from violence to non-violence in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in recent times,” the 37-year-old Mirwaiz, who is religious head of Kashmiri Muslims, said at a conference on Kashmir organised by a British defence think tank in London.
