BJP gifts onions to women
Hyderabad: BJP national leader M. Venkaiah Naidu and other party leaders presented a unique gift to women on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Onions!
A large number of women turned up at the state BJP office at Nampally to tie rakhis on Venkaiah Naidu, BJP national leader Bandaru Dattatreya, state BJP president G. Kishan Reddy, City president Venkat Reddy and other party leaders.
To highlight the plight of the housewives, who have been hard hit by the soaring price of the most commonly used onion, Naidu, after distributing swee-ts to women, took them by surprise by presenting two onions to each of them, which left them blushing.
“Earlier, we used to get tears in our eyes if we cut onions. Now we shed tears if we buy onions. The skyrocketing prices of onions reflect the misery of the common man and the utter failure of the UPA government to provide basic provisions at affordable prices,” Naidu remarked.
BJP leaders bought several kilos of onions and distributed them among the women as a mark of protest.
