BJP to govt: Scale down Pak ties

The BJP came down heavily upon UPA’s indifferent attitude towards killing of five Indian soldiers by Pakistan at LoC at a rally on Sunday. The Congress-led UPA government came under fire from BJP president Rajnath Singh, who demanded strict action against Pakistan.

Mr Singh asserted that there is a need to call off the entire proposed meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistan counterpart.
The BJP criticised the UPA government in the wake of ceasefire violation by Pakistan at the Line of Control last week. Mr Singh said the PM must declare cancellation of the meeting and also scale down all diplomatic relations with the neighbouring country. “The Prime Minister must declare today cancellation of talks. As a mark of protest, the Indian high commissioner to Pakistan should immediately be called back,” he said addressing a rally at Ramlila Maidan. The party strongly condemned the role played by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his “inaction.”
The BJP president said the Centre should initiate effective measures to tackle Pakistan by taking into confidence all political parties.
Slamming the Prime Minister’s “inaction” in the incident, the party opined that after repeated ceasefire violations along the LoC, the Prime Minister should take effective steps in this direction by taking all political parties into confidence.
The party supremo said, “You should declare today itself that there will be no talks with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Also, you should take effective steps by taking all political parties into confidence.”
Mr Singh questioned the masses, “Till when will we continue to hold dialogue and talks with Pakistan?”
Mr Singh sought the need to call in India’s High Commissioner, and seek his assistance in diplomatic relations with Pakistan. “The same demand was at the time of beheading of Indian soldiers by Pakistan,” Singh added. Recalling the times, Singh said, “I had then sought a befitting reply to Pakistan, but Prime Minister Singh has not reacted so far,” Mr Singh alleged.
