BJP hits out at beniwal
The BJP on Monday attacked Gujarat governor Kamla Beniwal for seeking expenditure details incurred during chief minister Narendra Modi’s recently concluded sadbhavna mission fast. The party, which had demanded Ms Beniwal’s recall over the Lokyukta appointment issue, alleged that the Centre
through the state governor is trying to malign the sadbhavna fast which was aimed at peace and harmony in the state. The Congress however, justified governor’s move saying it was government’s money and the chief minister cannot spent it on his fast.
Criticising the governor’s move, BJP national spokesperson J.P. Nadda said “Congress is trying to run a parallel government in the state through the governor.....if they are seeking expenditure details of this fast which was meant for peace and harmony, people of Gujarat will themselves give them during elections.” Ms Beniwal, it was learnt, dashed off a letter based on a representation received from Mahagujarat Janta Party chief and former BJP leader Gordhan Zadafia.
In his reaction, Congress spokesperson Rasid Alvi said: “This is quite justified. The money that Mr Modi spent on the fast is government money. Government’s money cannot be spent for fasts. If the governor has sought details of the expenditure, she has done the right thing.”
