BJP: K’taka gov ‘history-sheeter’
With the BJP calling the Karnataka governor Mr H.R. Bhardwaj a “history-sheeter” and therefore his recall, and the Congress unit of Karnataka demanding the dismissal of the Yeddyurappa-led BJP government in accordance with the recommendation of the governor, the crisis seems to have reached a point of no return.
Talking to reporters in the national capital, the BJP spokesperson Ms Nirmala Sitharaman said that the Karnataka governor has now become a history-sheeter in matters of constitutional impropriety. She said, “His conduct does not get a reprimand. There are sufficient reasons now to believe that he is functioning more as a Congress party agent than the constitutional head of the state. His position is no longer tenable and he should be removed.”
Meanwhile a delegation of congress leaders from Karnataka led by leader of the opposition in the state Assembly, Mr Siddaramaiah called on the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and insisted on the removal of the Yeddyurappa government in line with the recommendation of the governor.
Talking to reporters Mr Siddaramaiah said, “The Karnataka government has lost all moral right to continue in office in the wake of the supreme court overturning the decision of the High court on the disqualification of 16 MLAs in the state Assembly.”
When asked what the response of the Prime Minister to their demand Mr Siddaramaiah said, “the Prime Minister assured us that a decision would be taken on the issue after considering all aspects.”
The delegation included state congress leader Mr Parameshwar, senior leader Oscar Fernandes, Dharam Singh, Mallikarjuna Kharge, Mottama and others.
The Union Cabinet met on Friday night to discuss the crisis in Karnataka but deferred a decision till Sunday.
