BJP legislators to choose leader of Opposition on Saturday
BJP legislators will choose their leader of Opposition for Vidhan Sabha in the presence of central observers on Saturday.
"A meeting has been convened here tomorrow in which the BJP MLAs will elect their leader. The party will forward the name of the elected leader to the Assembly Speaker who will formally announce the name of the leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha," party state president Arun Chaturvedi said on Friday.
Senior party leader Venkaiah Naidu and party general secretary Thavarchand Gehlot will also be present as observers for the election, he said.
According to the party sources, former chief minister Vasundhara Raje is the main contender for the post. Former home minister Gulab Chand Kataria and deputy leader of opposition Ghanshyam Tiwari are also in the fray.
Raje had quit as the leader of Opposition in 2010.
She was asked to step down by the party high command in the wake of party's poor performance in the state Assembly and parliamentary elections.
