BJP likely to favour caste-based census

The BJP is in a dilemma over the caste census issue. With the RSS opposed to the issue and a section within the party strongly supporting it, the party, it was learnt, is likely to favour inclusion of caste in the Census but would refrain from going into details of the individual castes. The party is likely to favour broad category of castes like

General, OBC, SC or ST to be included in the Census. The party’s core group is meeting on August 6 to discuss the issue. The BJP and other political parties have to send their final view on inclusion of caste in Census to the government by August 7.
The BJP which had strongly supported the caste census issue, was left in a lurch after the RSS protested against the demographic exercise claiming that it would only divide the society and reverse country’s growth rate. But a section within the party is in favour of the caste based census, which would also help the party in wooing the OBC votebank, sources said.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
