BJP to meet Goa Governor to stake claim to form government
Newly-elected legislators led by the BJP, will meet Governor K. Sankarnarayanan here on Wednesday to stake claim to form the government in Goa.
BJP leader Manohar Parrikar said the letter of support of majority legislators would be produced before the Governor at 6 pm.
BJP leaders Venkaiah Naidu and Ravi Shankar Prasad arrived here in the afternoon to participate in the meeting of the newly-elected BJP legislators, who will decide on the leader of their group and the next Chief Minister.
Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP), which fought elections in alliance with BJP, will also submit their letter of support along with two Independents Avertano Furtado and Benjamin Silva.
The BJP-MGP legislators are expected to meet at 5 pm before proceeding to the Governor's place.
In the March 3 Goa polls, results of which were declared on Tuesday, BJP emerged as a single largest party.
MGP which fought elections in alliance with BJP won on three while the Congress was restricted to nine seats.
Goa Vikas Party has won two seats and there are five Independent candidates.
