BJP: Sad Cong raising Babri again and again

The BJP on Tuesday said it is “unfortunate” that the Congress is raising the Babri Masjid demolition issue “again and again”. The party said the law is taking its course in the matter, advising the Congress against giving “edification”.

Senior party leader and chief spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad said: “It has been said several times that a procedure is separately going on for December 6 (Babri Masjid demolition case). This is a legal action.” He said: “The country knows well about what has been the attitude of the Congress in this matter. So it will be better if they do not give edifications.” Mr Prasad was replying to the Congress’ statement on the demolition issue.
The Congress on Tuesday said the verdict in no way condones the demolition of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, which was a “shameful and criminal act for which the perpetrators must be brought to justice”.
Mr Prasad said those, including the Congress, raising the demolition issue should first answer the question of who had got the locks opened at the disputed site in Ayodhya, in a reference to the Rajiv Gandhi government which had allowed the opening of the locks in February 1986.
He alleged that the then P.V. Narasimha Rao government had attempted to “implicate” those booked in the Babri demolition case, including senior BJP leader L.K. Advani and other leaders of the party.
Hitting out at the Congress, BJP spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said: “At this stage, it is a high court verdict which has come on a bunch of civil suits based on certain issues. And to that extent, we respect what has come in the judgment. At this stage, to time and again link it with the demolition of Babri Masjid.” Mr Prasad also slammed the Left parties for their remarks that the verdict is based on faith and belief, asking them to read the 12,000-page judgment to understand how it was given on the basis of “testimony and settled principles of law”.
