BJP set to expel 7 dissident MLAs
The BJP, it was learnt, is all set to expel its seven Jammu and Kashmir MLAs, who had cross-voted during the state legislative council polls. The BJP parliamentary board is meeting on May 20 and a decision in this regard is likely to be taken. Sources said these MLAs have openly questioned the party’s decision to suspend them and the party top brass has decided to curb the growing dissidence in its state unit by taking serious action against these MLAs.
The party, which was left embarrassed after the incident, suspended seven of its 11 MLAs. Party’s own candidate got only four of the 11 votes. These seven MLAs were also issued show cause notice for cross voting in favour of Congress and NC candidates in the legislative council polls held on April 13.
However, six of the suspended MLAs have come out in support of Chaman Lal Gupta and have also questioned BJP high command’s decision of “singling out” them.
Adopting an aggressive stand against the party high command six of the seven MLAs have also written to state assembly speaker that Mr Gupta continues to be their leader, despite he being suspended by the party from the post. Sources disclosed Mr Gupta has also written letters to all party MLAs asking them whether the decision taken by party’s high command was reasonable or not.
