BJP should recount its response to riots: Omar
Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Monday took a dig at BJP which has accused his government of inaction in dealing with communal violence in the town of Kishtwar asking would it care to recount 2002 response. He was talking about the post-Godhra violence in Gujarat of 2002.
“Would (Arun) Jaitley be so kind as to inform Parliament whether the Gujarat home minister or MoS home resigned or even offered to in 2002,” Mr Abdullah tweeted on micro-blogging site twitter.
He said, “I’ve received Sajjad Kichloo’s resignation asking to be relieved of his responsibilities pending the outcome of the judicial inquiry”.
The chief minister said in order to establish the truth behind the Kishtwar violence and what followed the state government has decided to order a judicial inquiry.
In another tweet, the chief minister said “’I’m forwarding the same to honourable governor with the recommendation that it be accepted.” He went on saying, “Three unfortunate deaths — one Hindu, two Muslim and we’ve a judicial inquiry with my minister resigning. Would the BJP care to recount 2002 response… Oh that’s right they can’t because their star PM hopeful waited days to call out the army and has yet to apologise. Hypocrites.”
Mr Kitchloo after submitting his resignation to the chief minister (it has since been accepted by the governor) said in a signed statement that he and his family have a track record of sixty years in politics.
“Me and my father late Bashir Ahmad Kitchloo (a former minister) have always stood for probity and transparency in public life and secularism has been the bed rock of our political ideology and we are associated with the J&K National Conference whose basic principal is to uphold the communal harmony and brotherhood in the state,” he said.
