BJP slams Gogoi on border deal
BJP spokesman Rajiv Pratap Rudy here on Thursday alleged that Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi had overlooked the state’s interests while agreeing on the land swap deal with Bangladesh.
He also reprimanded Mr Gogoi for failing to take the Opposition as well as the people of the state into confidence before giving consent to the land swap deal.
Mr Rudy, who visited India-Bangla border, told reporters, “Mr Gogoi has sacrificed the interests of the state. He chose to ignore the people’s sentiments and worked on the diktats of the Congress bosses.” He regretted, “Even the PM who represents the state in Upper House of the Parliament did not hold any consultation. He merely intimated the Leaders of Opposition of the Parliament before the Bangladesh visit, without giving time for discussion.” On Mr Gogoi’s assertion that Assam had not conceded an inch of land, he claimed that the BJP teams collected official documents from people in the border areas that proves that the land that had been left to Bangladesh actually belonged to India.
