BJP threatens to quit JAC if Cong, TDP allowed to join

BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit on Monday threatened to pull out from the Telangana Political Joint Action Committee (JAC) if the Congress and TDP were allowed to join the Telangana statehood movement undertaken by the JAC.

The BJP would re-consider its decision on joining hands with TPJAC and undertake a separate movement on its own if both Congress and TDP are allowed to join in the movement being undertaken by Telangana political JAC, state party president G Kishan Reddy told reporters here.

Both the ruling Congress party and opposition TDP were deceiving the people of Telangana as well as Andhra regions by making contradictory statements on the separate statehood issue, Reddy alleged.

Holding the Congress and TDP responsible for the present political uncertainty in the state, he said both parties should make their stand clear on the Telangana issue.

Some leaders of TDP have been undertaking bus yatra in support of Telangana while its leaders belonging to Andhra region have begun another bus yatra in favour of united state, the BJP chief said adding that only party workers were participating in their programme and not public.

Reddy said despite en mass resignations by Congress MPs, MLAs and MLCs, the Congress Central leadership never bothered to take any decision on the separate Telangana issue though the party's Telangana representatives met Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram and AICC president Sonia Gandhi's political secretary Ahmed Patel during their stay in Delhi in the first week of this month.

He said the Centre should make an announcement immediately on the issue as various welfare programmes have been affected badly since 2009 due to agitation in support of Telangana state.
