BJP wants govt to bring motion for JPC Feb. 22

The main Opposition BJP on Friday asked government to bring the motion for the formation of a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) on February 22. The BJP and other Opposition parties have been demanding the JPC probe into corruption issues, including 2G spectrum allocation. The party also clarified that it will not boycott the

Presidential address to both Houses of Parliament on February 21. “We would expect the government to bring a motion for the formation of the JPC (to probe the 2G scam) on February 22. We have already informed the government about our demand,” said the Leader of the Opposition, Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj.
Replying to a query on upcoming Budget Session of Parliament, Ms Swaraj said her party will not boycott the address of President Pratibha Patil to both Houses of Parliament on February 21 when the Budget Session begins. “We will certainly attend that,” she said.
When asked as to what would be the Oppositions’ plan if the government fails to bring a motion for formation of JPC on February 22. Ms Swaraj said, “The NDA floor leaders will meet and decide on the future strategy.” To a question whether the BJP would boycott the Union Budget on February 28, the Leader of the Opposition said, “It is still far away. We will decide on our plans after February 22.”
Ms Swaraj, along with her Rajya Sabha counterpart Arun Jaitley and BJP parliamentary chairman and NDA working chairman L.K. Advani, had attended the meeting of floor leaders of Parliament recently. The BJP had insisted on a JPC probe. BJP has put the onus of smooth functioning of Parliament on the government.
