BJP wants a judicial inquiry
In the wake of the Chief Vigilance Commission pointing out large scale financial irregularities in the Commonwealth Games projects, the main Opposition BJP on Friday demanded a judicial inquiry in the matter after the sporting event gets over. The party claimed these findings by CVC has “shocked, disappointed and startled” people of
the country. Party general secretary Mr Vijay Goel said, “A judicial inquiry into all the financial irregularities that are coming to light about Commonwealth Games should be held but after the event is over.” He said substandard materials have been used in the construction for the CWF all over. The findings of the CVC indicating favouritism and buying of substandard equipment should be looked into, he added. The BJP leader insisted that since the erstwhile NDA government had bagged the right to host Commonwealth Games, his party was keen that the event was held successfully. “Rs 35 crore is being spent only on the opening and closing ceremonies. The opening ceremony tickets are costing Rs 10,00 to Rs 50,000 and the balloon display will cost Rs 50 crores,” Mr Goel alleged.
He further alleged that Rs 1 crore was paid for a tableau depicting CWG-2010 during the Republic Day parade when the real cost was mere Rs 5 lakh.
