BJP wants special LS session
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday demanded a special session of the Lok Sabha to discuss the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy in the light of safe passage given to prime accused Warren Anderson by the then Madhya Pradesh chief minister Arjun Singh.
“It is a serious issue. The LS should be convened immediately for a special session to discuss threadbare on it,” BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad told reporters at the Mana airport here before departing for Kabardha to attend the 13th day rituals of the late Vighnaharn Singh Thakur, father of Chhattisgarh chief minister Raman Singh.
He made a dig at the former MP chief minister for maintaining silence on the Anderson issue, wondering, “How long he (Arjun Singh) will continue to do so?”
“The truth behind letting off Anderson must come to light,” he said, adding, “The victims should be given justice and relief without any further delay.” He also demanded initiation of process “at the highest level” for extradition of Mr Anderson. Mr Prasad said his party would raise the issue vociferously.
