BJP will form govt on its own: Sushma
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Ms Sushma Swaraj, said here on Tuesday that the BJP is contesting elections in Assam to form the government on its own.
Refusing to divulge their post-poll strategy, Ms Swaraj said, “When you are in election mode, you are focused only on winning. So we are fighting to form the government.
Our aim is to form the government on our own.”On being asked that they had only 10 seats in the outgoing assembly of the state she argued, “In Bihar, our strike rate was 99 per cent. In Punjab, we got 19 out of 23 seats. When people give, they give generously.”
Claiming that central government as well as state have disappointed the people, ]Swaraj said, “The atmosphere here is favourable for BJP due to three factors — there is a strong anti-incumbency feeling against the present state government, utter disappointment with the Congress-led government at the Centre and positive feelings for the BJP.”
She also asserted, “The people relate to the issues raised by the BJP...the issues of good governance, commitment and migrants. People feel those are their issues.”On prospects of BJP in the four other states going to the polls, she said, “We are focused in all the five states, but have maximum hope in Assam. In West Bengal, the prospects are good, but not as in Assam. In Kerala, we will make a debut, but have an impressive strength.”
Asked about the role of the Ulfa during the elections, Ms Swaraj accused the Congress of “hobnobbing with the militant outfit. “It is a known fact. They (Congress) always do that before the polls,” said Ms swaraj. She ruled out that in absence of any pre-poll alliance, votes of the opposition would be divided.
