BJP: Will probe Maya if voted

Coming out with the high points of its vision document for the UP Assembly elections, the BJP on Friday announced that if voted to power the party government will institute a panel of inquiry to look into the corruption cases relating to the Mayawati-led BSP government. It also promised that it would provide rice and wheat at `3 and `2 per kg respectively to poor in the state.
Indicating that it will implement in UP all the successful schemes of other party-ruled states, the vision document, which will be released by BJP president Nitin Gadkari on January 16 in Lucknow, said, “On getting the mandate in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP government will end Mayawati’s empire of corruption worth thousands of crores spread from Noida, Ghaziabad to Ghazipur and from Balrampur to Banda. For this, within 24 hours of assuming power, an inquiry commission will be formed.”
The vision document makes several populist promises to lure the voters to the party, which is hopeful of increasing its tally from 51 seats it won in the 2007 Assembly polls.
“All farmers and the poor will be given 35 kg of rations per month with rice at `3 and wheat at `2 per kg through the public distribution system,” it said.
It also reiterates the party opposition to any reservation on religious lines and insists that it will keep intact the quota of OBC and Most Backward Classes (MBCs).
“Schemes like Ladli Lakshmi of Madhya Pradesh for welfare of girl child, the world-famous PDS of Chhattisgarh, Lokayukta law of Uttarakhand, Jyoti Gram of Gujarat for providing 24-hour power supply will be implemented in UP,” the vision document said.
Meanwhile, opposing the Centre’s move of providing 4.5 per cent reservation to minorities from the OBC quota, the BJP said the government had not consulted the Backward Class Commission before arriving at its decision.
BJP national secretary Bhupendra Yadav maintained that even in the “discredited” Ranganath Commission report, 55 Muslim communities are part of the Central list for OBCs.
“Attempt of the government to bifurcate the backward class reservation on religious basis is unconstitutional and against the object of social justice,” Mr Yadav said.
