BJP will win in gujarat, modi assures party
Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday assured the BJP leadership that the saffron party will retain power in the state. Mr Modi, sources said, supported the party’s stand on the issue of FDI in multi-brand retail and suggested that the party should take up this issue more aggressively. Mr Modi also made a presentation about his state government’s achievements. Assembly polls in the BJP-ruled states of Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh are likely to be held in November 2012.
Mr Modi, sources said, told party leaders at the first day of the BJP’s three-day-long conclave that Congress can “only dream of” coming to power in Gujarat as not only his state but the entire country has now realised that Congress’ rule means anti-people policies. He also criticised the Congress-led UPA government’s decision of capping subsidised LPG cylinders.
Mr Modi also criticised the Centre of “step-brotherly” treatment to the BJP-ruled states.
Sources disclosed, Mr Modi maintained that lakhs of cylinders will be saved if the Centre gives permission to Gujarat to send its gas pipelines to people’s homes.
The chief minister said while the state is all set to implement it, the Centre is “dilly dallying” on it.
He criticised the Centre for not allowing the state to lay gas pipelines, which he claimed will allow people to avail cheaper gas and also reduce the subsidy burden.
Regarding the coming Assembly polls in his state, Mr Modi said his slogan for the forthcoming polls will be “Sab ke saath, sab ka vikas (with everybody and for everybody’s progress)”.
