BJP: Withdraw J&K pilgrim tax
The executive committee of Madhya Pradesh unit of the BJP on Thursday passed a political resolution which dubs the tax levied by the Jammu and Kashmir government on vehicles of pilgrims going to Amarnath and Vaishneo Devi jazia (tax imposed on non-Muslims during the Mughal rule).
Through the resolution, the BJP has asked the National Conference-Congress led coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir to withdraw this tax. The state BJP executive has asked the Central government to intervene, saying that the National Conference and the Congress were going down on their knees to serve the agenda of the secessionist forces that were threatening to obstruct the pilgrims going to Amarnath and Vaishno Devi.
Accusing the Congress of compromising on the corruption front in its first term, the state BJP executive has said in its resolution that the Congress-led UPA government began its second consecutive term in office with corruption.
The government lacks collective responsibility, the resolution says, pointing to alleged scams.
It particularly talks of the telecom ministry’s 2G spectrum auction and the agriculture ministry’s sugar, fertiliser and wheat import scams.
The resolution says the PM has failed to take action against erring ministers.
The state BJP executive has criticised the UPA government at the Centre for failure on its part to control the Naxalism and accused the Congress of compromising on national security front only to build its own vote bank.
