Body count rises in Delhi ‘honour killing’
In a chilling turn to the “honour killing” of the couple Monica and Kuldeep, a third body, of another woman, was found in a car on Tuesday morning. The body was that of Monica’s cousin, Shobha, who had eloped with a youth from another community and later returned home following family pressure, police sources said.
The black Santro in which the third body was found was reportedly parked in an Ashok Vihar parking lot nearly 300 metres from the scene of the first crime, which was committed on Sunday. The body was, however, discovered on Tuesday morning when passers-by complained to the police of a foul smell emanating from the car. The badly decomposed body of Shobha was then taken out of the vehicle, which had been locked. The body was found lying in the front seat of the car.
Monica, a Gujjar, and Kuldeep, a Jat, married four years ago against their families’ wishes. They were found murdered in the Ashok Vihar area of northwest Delhi on Sunday evening. The brother of the third victim, Mandeep Nagar, and Monica’s brother Ankit and their friend Nikku, whom the police suspects are behind the murders, are absconding. Mandeep is also related to Monica. The police is now questioning the family members of Monica and Shobha. Those being questioned by the police include Monica’s father Lilu, her uncle Dharmendra, her youngest brother Shanky and his friend Suraj. No one has been arrested as yet.
The police, which claimed Shobha had been shot dead, allegedly by her brother and his associate Nikku, on Sunday evening minutes after they shot Monica and her husband, Kuldeep Singh, dead, accused Mandeep, Ankit and their friend Nikku of planning the killings.
