Bomb scare at Gargi College bus stop in Delhi
Delhi was once again hit by a security scare on Monday when a bag filled with explosive material was found lying near Delhi University’s Gargi College in south Delhi.
A student of Gargi College noticed a bag containing explosive material used in making firecrackers, two pencil-size batteries and wires at the bus stand outside the college at around 11.55 am.
A call was made to the police control room and security personnel accompanied by bomb disposal squad, sniffer dogs and crime investigation unit reached the spot.
“One of our students saw suspicious material lying in a bag at the bus stop when she reached there after appearing in B.Com. exam. She first informed the PCR van opposite the campus and then informed us. The bomb squad came and defused the bomb. There is nothing to be afraid of now,” Meera Ramachandran, principal of the college told a news agency.
Joint commissioner of police (southern range), Amulya Patnaik, however said, “The objects found in the bag were not assembled and there was no circuit to trigger the explosion. The powdery substance found in the bag resembles the material used for making firecrackers. The bag also contained some wires, small batteries and a cardboard box, which have been sent for forensic examination”, he said.
