Bombay High Court grants bail to cartoonist Aseem Trivedi
A court in Mumbai granted bail on Tuesday to Aseem Trivedi, the cartoonist whose arrest on sedition charges over his work lampooning the government has triggered outrage, reports said.
Aseem Trivedi, a freelance cartoonist and anti-corruption campaigner, was arrested on Saturday but was granted bail by a judge in Mumbai on Tuesday, reports said.
Earlier on the day, Anti-corruption activist Arvind Kejriwal demanded that all the charges against the jailed cartoonist Aseem Trivedi be dropped or else he will sit on protest outside the Arthur Road prison in Mumbai from Saturday.
"I spoke to Aseem. By Friday, all the charges should be dropped and he should be freed or else from Saturday onwards we will sit here (outside Arthur Jail) to protest his arrest. Either you release Aseem or arrest us," Kejriwal said outside the jail after meeting the Kanpur-based artist.
