Bookies in Mumbai see World Cup crores
Mumbai’s bookies expect to make huge profits in the FIFA World Cup which begins this weekend, estimating that business might touch Rs 400-500 crores.
A bonus, they feel, is that the match timings will help Indian viewers.
“We shall be accepting bets on the first half, second half and draws,” a bookie said. He noted that the live telecasts would begin around 5 pm and continue till past midnight in India, which would attract a lot of people since it was after regular working hours.
Punters, however, aren’t too keen on betting on the Asian Cup cricket tournament in Sri Lanka beginning at the end of June as it will be the rainy season there.
