Boxer’s bed collapses at Village
India’s defending CWG bantamweight gold-medallist boxer Akhil Kumar was in for a rude shock as his bed collapsed moments after he checked into his room at the `1,350-crore Games Village here on Saturday.
“I sat on the bed to rest but suddenly it gave way. After that I noticed that part of it has no plywood. It was very disappointing after enduring a long journey. The athletes are at least entitled to a decent place to rest,” he said on Saturday.
“The rooms are spacious but finishing work remains. Even the toilets are not very clean. I have told coach Gurbax Singh Sandhu abo-ut this,” said the pugilist, who will compete in the 56 kg category. “We (the Indi-an boxing contingent) reached Olympic Bhavan at 2 pm and were kept waiting till 6 pm to collect our accr-editation cards. But when I sat down on my bed to rest, it collapsed,” he said.
