BPO executive drowns in sea
A 23-year-old youth, who ventured into the sea in an inebriated condition, was fished out dead near the Manori jetty in Gorai on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased, Anand Kamat, was working at a city-based call centre. Anand is a resident of Sahar village in Andheri (west).
According to police, Anand had gone to Gorai beach, along with three of his friends, for a holiday trip on Saturday. They four of them decided to visit the Manori jetty on Sunday morning.
“On Sunday afternoon, Anand entered the water but was pulled in by the strong currents. His friends then raised an alarm after which locals gathered at the spot,” said Raghunath K. Jaybhaye, assistant sub-inspector from the Gorai police station.
The fire brigade officers along with the Coast Guards arrived at the beach and conducted a search operation with two rescue boats. “Anand’s body was finally fished out at 4.30 pm,” Mr Jaybhaye added. He was rushed to the Bhagwati Hospital, but was declared dead on arrival. The police will record the statements of Anand’s friends. A case of accidental death has been registered at the Gorai police station. “We always warn people against venturing into the sea after consuming alcohol,” added Mr Jaybhaye.
Incidentally, all the four friends had consumed alcohol.
