‘Breach of poll promise corruption’
Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav said on Sunday that breach of promises made during elections also amounted to corruption.
Speaking at the launch of the Akhilesh government’s unemployment allowance scheme here on Sunday, Mr Yadav said that betrayal of the trust that people repose in a party is the worst kind of corruption.
“The Samajwadi Party is the only party that has always fulfilled the promises it made to the people. Party leaders and ministers should take care to preserve the trust that the people have reposed in them,” he said.
Mr Yadav said that the aim of the Samajwadi Party government was not only to provide unemployment allowance of `1,000 per month to the youth but also to provide employment opportunities to youth.
“We will soon launch the Kanya Vidya Dhan scheme and will fulfill all our poll promises. The government has five years’ time but we will fulfill the promises at the earliest,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Akhilesh Yadav government launched its flagship scheme — the unemployment allowance for youth — at a grand function in Lucknow on Sunday by giving cheques to more than 10,000 unemployed youth.
The scheme, which assures a monthly allowance of `1,000 to unemployed youth, was one of Samajwadi Party’s main poll promises during elections this year.
Youth from seven districts, including Lucknow, Unnao, Sitapur, Hardoi, Lakhimpur, Rae Bareli and Kanpur, were given cheques on Sunday. Henceforth, the money will be sent directly into the accounts of the beneficiaries on a quarterly basis.
