Bring changes in UPA: NCP

The Nationalist Youth Congress (NYC), the frontal organisation of the NCP led by Union minister Sharad Pawar, on Thursday appealed to the parent party to “work for political formation which can bring changes within the UPA or create new political platform which can bring the desired changes”.
This was suggested in the draft economic and political resolution circulated in the national convention of the NYC.
“The NYC thinks that the time has come to explore new political initiatives which can pursue socio-economic policies that will put our economy in right direction,” it says.
Observing that the “hope floated by UPA 1 is fast evaporating”, it says “in a political front we are not seeing any meaningful, realising determined effort to address socio-political economic issue marring our country’s political economic landscape”.
“The inclusive growth became limited to only those who are already included and reaping the benefits of economic policies. Those who were sitting at the helm are obsessed with GDP growth. They love to forget the fact that 94 per cent of Indian population is outside the formal economy,” it says.
While observing that we are experiencing a “jobless growth” on the basis of Planning Commission’s report, it says the government ensures everything possible to attract investors, selling land, forests, minerals and creating labour laws in a way that maximum benefits are being to industrialists. “As for as wages are considered, wage profit ratio goes down in favour of corporates”, it said
“The vast majority who are outside the formal economy, does not receive any meaningful support or they are not seen by the people who fervently adore the neo-con ideas. In Indian context, these sector like agriculture, small manufacturers, small-time traders are all punishingly sidelined from the benefits of economic growth. It seems that those who are in the government has concerns only on minuscule minority who reap the nenefits of the economic growth...,” it views.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
