Britich Council plans spreading info through tech to rural folk
Chennai: Digitalisation and reaching out to the rural folk when it comes to dissemination of knowledge are the new paths which would be pursued by the British Council in the coming months.
Speaking to DC, director, British Council, South India, Paul Sellers, said, “We are going further with the digitalisation of information and we intend to make it available to the people through technology. Many of our journals are online and for free but that needs to reach the rural pockets too. We want to reach out to them and we are working on a plan to do so.”
The sixth edition of debates matter, an initiative taken up by British Council, was held at IIT on Wednesday. Students from PSBB senior secondary school, K.K. nagar bagged the first prize and Vellamal international were adjudged the runners-up.
The winners would head to Delhi in the coming days to battle it out at the national-level competition.
Guru Gujral, head, society, British Council, says, “We have been pursuing some ideas on inclusion of disadvantaged section of youths in the country too. In Chennai, the council will be coming up with social entrepreneurship programme. The programme envisages first creating trainers on entrepreneurship and then making them share their expertise with the community.”
“The choice of trainers would be based on proposals and other similar modalities are in the blueprint and we plan to initiate the programme in the next two months The programme will have a cascading effect as the trainers go back home or their communities and share their expertise with the youth and women there.”
