Brothers kill sister, get life sentence
A district court here has sentenced four brothers to life imprisonment for murdering their pregnant sister and her husband for marrying against their wish. Nainital district and sessions judge R.P. Pande on Monday awarded the life imprisonment to Jahir Alam, Anis Alam, Rais Alam and Faim Ahmed and slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 each.
The four were also found guilty of killing the unborn baby and were awarded 10-year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000.

MLA attacks photographer in Amritsar

Journalists in Amritsar are demanding the immediate arrest of a ruling party legislator and his official gunman who allegedly attacked a local photographer outside his residence on Sunday.
Amritsar’s electronic and photo-journalists association chief Robin Singh said, Mr Amarpal Singh Boney, a Shiromani Akali Dal MLA from the rural Ajnala constituency assaulted Mr Balraj Singh while he was shooting pictures.

Milestone in underwater mining quest

New technology is now permitting deep sea mining even though it maybe a mile or two underwater. In a major milestone for the country’s quest for deep-sea mining, India’s remotely operable vehicle (ROV) successfully touched 5,289 metre below sea level in Indian Ocean and collected samples of manganese nodules in end April.
Other mineral deposits and metals include gold, silver, zinc, copper.

Pillai to check security at all airports

Home secretary G.K. Pillai will preside over a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review aviation security at airports across the country. The meeting is significant since the aviation sector in the country continues to face considerable threat from terrorists.
