BSNL: Cable faults may affect Net accessibility
State-run telecom firm Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) said on Saturday that its subscribers may be facing problems in accessing broadband and Internet services due to breakdown of international cables.
“It has been reported that three major cables which are serving as the international gateway connectivity are affected because of the multiple fibre cuts. The Sea-Me-We-4, IMEWE and EIG cable systems are the ones affected. Because of this disruption, BSNL has lost around 21 per cent of its total international bandwidth,” said BSNL in a statement. It said that BSNL is pursuing with its international bandwidth partners to restore the connectivity expeditiously who in-turn is pursuing with their business partners involved in this restoration process.
“Because of this sudden disruption BSNL customers accessing broadband, Internet through fixed lines network as well as mobile customers may face some hardships in accessing the broadband services till the disruption is restored by International bandwidth partners,” said BSNL.
It said that this sudden unexpected bandwidth reduction in the international bandwidth is suspected to cause some delay, in accessing various international sites and their responses.
