BSNL employee allegedly beaten to death in UP

An employee with the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) was Monday allegedly beaten to death inside a telephone exchange in Ghaziabad.
There are differing accounts as to how Sukhendra Pal Singh, a 46-year-old secretary of the workers' union at Rajnagar exchange in Ghaziabad city, died Monday morning.
Ghaziabad Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Prashant Kumar told IANS that Sukhendra Pal had been called Monday morning by the BSNL general manager (GM) for some work-related discussion, which apparently went awry and resulted in the union leader's death.
The general mnager has lodged a complaint of criminal intimidation by the employee.
In his complaint, the GM, Adesh Kumar Gupta, said that Sukhendra Pal barged into his office, hit him on his face, tore his clothes and ransacked the office furniture.
In the meantime, security guards came in and dragged Sukhendra Pal away. He scuffled with the guards and in a fit of rage, collapsed on the staircase.
But Sukhendra Pal's son, Rohan alleged that the general manager and his four accomplices hit his father with rods and as a result he died. A case on his complaint has been registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
"Both complaints have been registered and investigation has been initiated. We are waiting for the outcome of the post-mortem report," said Circle II officer Praveen Ranjan Singh.
