Congress General Secretary Digvijay Singh today hit out at Akhilesh Yadav government in the wake of communal violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district in which at least 12 people were killed.

“SP government's track-record in this tenure is bad. Haven’t been able to control communal forces in Uttar Pradesh, even BSP’s was better,” Singh wrote on micro blogging website Twitter.

The Congress leader also attacked BJP saying non-BJP ruled states need to be “more careful” in the wake of communal violence.

“Condemn communal violence in Muzaffarnagar. A homage to the journalist and those killed. All non-BJP ruled states have to be more careful,” he said in another tweet.

Urging citizens to maintain peace and harmony, Singh wrote “I appeal to all in Muzaffarnagar and other areas of western UP to bring peace and to fight communal forces.”

Tension has been running high in Muzaffarnagar district since three persons were killed in Kawal village on August 27.

Yesterday, 12 persons, including a TV channel journalist, were killed in violence, which occurred as a meeting was being held in Naglabadhod in defiance of prohibitory orders to demand withdrawal of cases registered in connection with Kawal incident.

Curfew remained in force in Civil Lines, Kotwali and Nai Mandi areas of the district with Army carrying out a flag march in the troubled areas.

Five companies of PAC and as many of RAF and police have also been deployed.

The senior congress leader also condemned separatists forces in Kashmir for opposing the concert by world renowned orchestra conductor Zubin Mehta, held on Saturday.

“Music bonds which divisive forces oppose...Wish I was there to see him perform,” Singh added.
