Buddha has no car or house, only `5,000
West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee does not own a house or a car and he stays in a rented government flat and has just `5,000 cash in hand.
Bhattacharjee, who is the CPI(M) candidate for Jadavpore assembly constituency, said in his affidavit filed with the Election Commission that his income for the year 2009-10 was `1,00,920.
Bhattacharjee has no bank deposit, investment, FD or jewellery.
The chief minister has no immovable or movable property, farm land, non-agricultural land, commercial or residential building in his own name nor has he inherited any property.
The income tax return of Bhattacharjee's wife Mira, however, shows she has an income of `6,70,135 in 2009-10, movable asset valued at over `31 lakh including bank deposits, jewellery and investments.
Amidst tight security, the chief minister filed his nomination from Jadavpur constituency in South 24-Parganas district which will go to polls on April 27 in the third phase of Assembly elections in West Bengal.
Meanwhile, he has termed as “distorted” and “one-sided” the WikiLeaks revelation that he had invited Dow Chemicals to a proposed chemical hub, saying invitation was made on condition that the company owned responsibility of compensating Bhopal gas tradegy victims.
“I had categorically stated that we want Dow Chemicals to invest in the proposed chemical hub in the state, subject to the company accepting responsibility for compensating the victims of Bhopal gas disaster. The responsibility aspect has been left out in the cable,” Bhattacharjee said. —PTI
