Buddha says Mamata ‘not familiar with Constitution’
Rubbishing Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee’s prediction that the 2011 Assembly elections would be advan-ced to October 2010, West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee said Sunday there was no question of advancing the polls.
“The election never depends on the sweet will of anyone (read Mamata Banerjee). Only the state government can decide... (and) we are committed to holding polls on schedule,” he said. The person who made this demand “was not conversant with the Constitution of India,” he said. “Careless utterances indicate recklessness and whimsical thoughts.”
Ms Banerjee said earlier the Assembly polls might be in October 2010 if Trinamul won the May 30 polls to the Kolkata Municipal Corpor-ation and 81 other municipalities.
