Bus driver runs over 20, kills 7 in fare war
An angry bus driver ran over 20 passengers in Karauli district on Wednesday, killing seven of them and injuring 11. The police has arrested the driver, Raju, and booked him for “murder”.
According to the police, after a row over the bus fare the driver asked the passengers to get off the bus and, when they got down, he drove the bus over them. Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred early in the morning at a petrol pump where the bus stopped for fuel. The passengers thrashed the driver during the fight over fares and, later, the driver ran them down in revenge. “Five of them died on the spot while two breathed their last at the hospital in Karauli,” said a police officer. The victims were devotees from Agra and its surrounding areas who had gone to pray at the Keladevi Temple in Karauli district.
