C’garh polls: BJP to drop 20 MLAs?
The ruling BJP in Chhattisgarh may field new faces in half of the Assembly constituencies in the state to counter anti-incumbency factor in the November polls, a senior party leader said here on Monday.
The decision comes in the wake of an appraisal of performance of all 50 party legislators conducted recently by the party to assess their winning prospects, if re-nominated in the coming Assembly polls. “The internal assessment has identified at least 20 constituencies vulnerable for the party because of non-performance of the sitting MLAs”, the leader disclosed. BJP has 50 legislators in the 90-member Assembly. While the Opposition Congress has 38 in the Assembly, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has two legislators.
The party strategists have suggested to replace sitting BJP MLAs with new faces in the “vulnerable” constituencies to help the party retain the seats. The non- performing legislators, whose images are found be battered beyond repair, included three ministers in the Raman government.
