Cabinet reshuffle: PM may bring young faces
The impending Cabinet reshuffle could see the emergence of the second rung in Congress.
There is strong speculation in the corridors of power that about a dozen new faces could get Cabinet berths in the recast expected anytime this week. "If the exercise is more fundamental, a lot of changes could be seen," UPA insiders said.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi have almost completed the exercise. PM wants a team that could help in policy formation and execution. This time, even Congress allies and supporting parties are not in a bargaining mood because of the various scams.
Uttar Pradesh (UP) could get more prominence if the focus is on political exercise with an eye on next year's assembly election in the state.
AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi has special interest in UP. But the state already has six Union ministers. Nevertheless the names of Sanjay Singh and Jagdambika Pal are doing the rounds so that Rajputs get representation.
In Maharashtra, if Congress wants to defeat BJP chief Nitin Gadkari, it will have to strengthen Vilas Muttemwar. This is because Gadkari has virtually decided to contest the next Lok Sabha election from Nagpur, represented by Muttemwar since 1998.
Half-a-dozen Congress ministers are holding dual charges. There is also talk of removing non-performers.
Trinamul Congress chief whip in Lok Sabha Sudip Bandyopadhyay may finally get a break and could be inducted as minister of state in charge of revenue.
