CAG raps Assam on NREGA
If the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India on Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) is any indictor, an expenditure of `4060.48 crore to execute the flagship programme of UPA in between 2007-2012 has gone in to drains in Assam.
The audit report, which was published this month, has not only found glaring instances of misuse of fund but all the test checks of state government records by auditors have found massive misappropriation of MGNREGS fund.
In one of the districts — Kamrup where CAG carried out test check, it found that 190 job cards issued to persons other than original job seekers.
The CAG auditors found that there were three-four individuals who were the recipients against 190 job cards.
In some cases CAG could not even identify the recipients of the job cards issued in different names.
