Caller claims to be Buddha, probe ordered
A person, identifying himself as chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, called up a man and asked him to pass an order. This incident was brought to the notice of state chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta and city police commissioner R.K. Pachnanda by Mr Bhattacharjee’s election agent and former city mayor Bikash Ranjan Bhattacharyya. Mr Bhattacharjee is contesting the Assembly elections from Jadavpur constituency.
“We have received a complaint from the election agent of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee that an unknown person, identifying himself as Mr Bhattacharjee had called from 1166041000 to a third person. The complainant has termed this as an effort to malign the image of Mr Bhattacharjee. I have asked the state ADG (law and order) Surajit Kar Purkayastha to investigate it and submit a report,” Mr Gupta said. According to sources at the chief minister’s office, the caller was speaking in English when he asked the person over the phone to pass an order. “The caller had also imitated the voice of Mr Bhattacharjee,” sources added.
The person, who had received the call, later communicated the matter to a CPI(M) party election camp office in Jadavpur.
