Displaying political courtesy and graciousness which seemed to have vanished from Bengal, Trinamul Congress chief and chief minister designate Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday called on expelled CPI(M) leader and former Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee.

She extended an invitation to him to attend her swearing-in ceremony at the Raj Bhavan on Friday afternoon. Mr Chatterjee later said that he would not be able to attend because he would not be present in the city on the day.
When accompanied by mayor Sovan Chatterjee and minister of state for shipping Mukul Roy, Ms Banerjee arrived at the octogenarian leader’s Southern Avenue house, Mr Chatterjee, his wife and daughter came down to receive her at the entrance.
