Car kills 4 on Safdarjung flyover
Four labourers, including a 16-year-old boy, were killed when a speeding Honda City rammed into them on the Safdarjung flyover at around 2 am Monday while they were engaged on road repair work. Four others, including a woman, suffered critical injuries.
The car driver, identified as Shahid, 22, from Alwar, Rajasthan, fled from the spot. He is studying medicine in Ukraine and was in Delhi on vacation. The police said Shahid and two friends — Shahzad, 18, and Alam Khan, 23 — were returning from a party at Alam’s home at Aula village near Mehrauli when the incident occurred. Shahid, suspected to be under the influence of liquor, lost control while descending from the flyover and ran over eight labourers, police officials said. The dead have been identified as Vikas Kumar, 25, Joginder, 21, Lalbabu, 26, Abhinandan, 16. The first three died at the AIIMS Trauma Centre while Abhinandan breathed his last at Safdarjung Hospital in the early hours. The injured are being treated at Safdarjung Hospital and AIIMS.
