Delhi Police have registered a case against unknown BJP workers from Andhra Pradesh and Delhi who indulged in violence during their protest for a separate Telangana state despite appeals from party leaders.

The case was registered on September 6, two days after the protest march from Jantar Mantar to Parliament House that turned violent following which police used watercanons and lobbed teargas shells to control the mob.

According to the FIR registered by police, BJP leaders like Prakash Javedekar, Murlidhar Rao and E. Laxmi Narayan asked the supporters not to cross barricades erected there and not to indulge in violence but they did not heed.

The BJP units in Andhra Pradesh and Delhi had organised a three-day fast here from September 3 which was addressed by party leaders L.K. Advani and Sushma Swaraj and others.

Around 1,000 protesters took out the march from Jantar Mantar on September 4 and police prevented them from moving ahead to Parliament in front of Parliament Street Police station.

"Some of the protesters crossed the first barricade and moved towards the second barricade despite warning them that they were violating prohibitory orders. Senior police officials as well as senior BJP leaders like Javedekar appealed to them to listen to the instructions of police.

"But some of them entered into a scuffle with police and moved towards third barricade. Then police used watercanons and lobbed teargas shells. Some of them got minor injuries when they were trying to escape the watercanons," a senior police official said.

The official said after this, the leaders and supporters started courting arrest but inside the police station premises, some of them again entered into a scuffle with police. Twenty-three protesters and six policemen were injured in the incident, he said, adding none of the protester have registered a complaint with them in connection with getting injured.

Police have registered a case under sections 186 (obstructing a government servant from performing his duty), 188 (disobedience of an order) and 353 (assault) against unknown persons.
