Case against councillor for distributing distorted Indian map
A patriotic gesture by an AIADMK councillor in distributing a map of India landed him in trouble, as a case has been registered against him since a portion of Kashmir was missing from it.
The councillor, Imthias, during the Tamil Nadu civic body elections held last month, had distributed the map as part of his campaign material, little knowing that it was a distorted version.
Both HIndu Munnani and Hindu Makkal Katchi lodged complaints against Imthias, who was re-elected from ward 15, based on which police registered a case against him and also one Shanmugaraj, who had printed it, a couple of days ago, police said.
They could be fined and warned by the Court, as the case was registered under section 2 (2) of Criminal Law (amendment) Act, they said.
Pleading ignorance, Imthias said he was not aware of the distorted version of the map and distributed them as a patriotice gesture. He was ready to appear before the court and pay whatever fine imposed by it, he said.
