Cash from TN: Kerala on high alert
The Kerala police have beefed up security on the state border to check any possible inflow of huge cash and illicit liquor from across the border during elections.
This is being done in the context of the flow of unaccounted money in neighbouring Tamil Nadu becoming rampant. Additional forces have been deployed at all major check posts along the state border.
Other strategic areas bordering Tamil Nadu, which could be used as safe entry points by anti socials, have also been brought under close surveillance.
Police have tightened vigil in and around major check posts in Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Kollam, Idukki and Malappuram.
Expenditure monitoring squads, which include officials of revenue and inc-ome tax departments, have intensified checking. “We have pressed into service special strike force in border areas to check vehicles coming from across the border,” said a police officer.
Authorities in Kerala had sounded a alert following the recovery of hard cash worth over `25 crore in various parts of the Tamil Nadu over the past few days. They fear that part of the money could also land in Kerala through Kanyakumari and Tirunelveli.
