Catch 22 for Congress, final Telangana verdict expected
Hyderabad: Sources from New Delhi said that the Congress high command had once again summoned the CM, deputy CM and the PCC president to New Delhi to be present at Friday’s crucial Congress Core Committee meeting which would decide the dates for convening the Congress Working Committee meeting to “finally announce its decision” on Telangana.
According to top AICC sources, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi will formally meet the three to convey the “decision on Telangana” ahead of the CWC meeting.
The sources added that other than indications, there has been no final word so far from the Congress chief regarding formation of Telangana. With this in mind, the Seemandhra ministers on Wednesday threatened to quit in order to stall the division of the state and create a crisis.
They will also urge Union ministers and MPs from Seemandhra to quit their posts so that the Centre hesitates to announce the formation of a Telangana state.
Thus, for the Congress, it is a catch-22 situation. If Telangana is not announced, all the Telangana ministers and MLAs might quit and if it is announced, the Seemandhra ministers, MPs and legislators may resign en masse.
